Joseph Bonasia

Joseph Bonasia is a retired high school English teacher and now spends most of his time on behalf of environmental organizations, usually in an educational capacity, since that is my skill set.

Currently Bonasia is the SWFL Director for Florida Rights of Nature Network.  They work on initiatives throughout the state to secure legal recognition for an ecosystem’s right to exist, flourish, and evolve naturally.  Bonasia also serves as the Education Director for the Lee County Rights of Nature.  Mostly, this means he speaks publicly and writes about Rights of Nature.  His job is to articulate successfully to the public what Rights of Nature is all about.

Bonasia also serves as Education Director for Citizens’ Climate Lobby of Fort Myers.  Again, he speaks publicly and writes about reducing greenhouse gas emissions through a carbon fee and dividend program.  He is also serving as CCL’s legislative liaison to Senator Rick Scott’s office.

As a member of Pachamama Alliance of SWFL, Bonasia helps facilitate Awakening the Dreamer seminars, with a focus on college students and faith communities.

As a member of the local Sierra Club, he was primarily responsible for organizing an electric car showcase at Edison Ford Winter Estates, and, in concert with Pachamama of SWFL, helped secure a grant for a solar panel array project at two local high schools.

Lastly, Bonasia has been doing grant writing and written communications work for the Cape Coral Friends of Wildlife and Cape Coral Wildlife Trust.
